A Brush with Abstraction

with Rob Moore

Artist Rob Moore returns to Art Waves once again offering a one day workshop making pieces based on abstraction.

Workshop Description
It is envisaged that on completion of the session participants will have made several quick mixed media studies including collage before making an acrylic painting or larger mixed media piece based on one of the successful compositions.

The session will include an introduction by Rob showing some work of his own to lead into and inspire work on the day.

The workshop is suitable for established artists and beginners as personal support and direction is possible through the small group size.

All materials will be provided but participants if they have them might like to bring along some collage materials like textured or patterned papers and some paintbrushes.

About The Artist
Rob is a retuning artist to ArtWaves, a painter with many years experience. He has a strong interest in drawing and printmaking and keeps sketchbooks which record observations, memories and feelings to inform the larger scale oil painted images.

In recent years his work has developed through a 'feel for place' in the East Yorkshire Wolds where he lives alongside less familiar landscapes observed on his travels.

He describes his work as remaining experimental and exploratory both in terms of content and the manipulation of media. I am interested in abstraction , suggestion, atmosphere, space and touching upon feelings of awe, intrigue and excitement which cannot be easily articulated in any other way than through imagery.

"The work is very much like the walks that often inspire the imagery, in that I set off, meander, halt, take a wrong turn and then reach the destination. The destination is not however predetermined but I know when I get there. I make images which evoke an area between the real and the imaginary and that have recently touched upon the fragility of our planet. I am involved in a sort of creative journey which often surprises , sometimes disappoints but is always interesting."
