Painting in Oils

Richard Allen

Workshop Description
ArtWaves is thrilled to be offering a three hour workshop with Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2016-17, Richard Allen.

The Bournemouth artist is set to take on our East Yorkshire Coast for an outdoor painting workshop with a twist, his award winning style of dynamic and almost sculptural application of paint with the fluid, sensual properties of the medium taking centre stage.

Explore the views of Bridlington as you never have before and refine your skills by painting alongside practical guidance on the process of painting in oils through Richard's expect tuition.

Please note: The intention is that this workshop will be staged externally at a site in close proximity to Bridlington Spa however, should adverse weather conditions prevent this the workshop will be relocated internally.

About The Artist
Richard studied fine art as an undergraduate at Central Saint Martins college in London, specialising in painting. He has worked with great success as a professional illustrator appearing in many publications, including The New Yorker, Esquire, the Telegraph, the Guardian and the Wall Street Journal as well as several books, such as the Foilo Society editions and the Harper Collins children's picture book, Apes-a-Go-Go!

Since 2012 Richard has returned to his first love of oil painting. Primarily, he explores portraiture and still life, which are intensely observed and expressively rendered. Since winning the Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year, Richard has embraced landscape painting with what he describes as 'a genuine fervour'.

With many solo exhibits and a strong portfolio under his belt we are extremely happy to welcome Richard to ArtWaves 2019.
