Adriana Lecouvreur was the only successful opera by Francesco Cilea.

The action takes place in the year 1730, in Paris.

Adriana Lecouvreur, an actress at the Comedie-Francaise, is in love with Maurizio, the Count of Saxony, but he cannot decide if he loves Adriana or the Principessa for much of the opera.

The show centres on the rivalry between Adriana and the Princesse de Bouillon as they fight for Maurizio's love.

Meanwhhile, Michonnet, the stage manager at the Comedie-Francaise is also in love with Adriana.
